Nearly everything’s in place and I’m expecting to leave in a month. I have a van, I have camping gear, all that is left is to empty this apartment and get the van livable.
It was a long, cold winter and I was often discouraged, fearing I would never get to this point. It almost didn’t happen — the car broke and I was ready to give up. But I got amazing help at the last minute and now I’m just finishing things up here. This month I finished paying off some debts and I’m scrambling to get everything together for departure!
First plans: some natural history tourism out here in the west as I wend my way eastward.
Upcoming: visiting family in the Midwest. I am so excited to get to see people I love and haven’t seen in a couple of decades!
Along the way, I will stop off and meet some of my internet friends. Some I have only known a short time while I’ve known others for a decade or more.
On the east coast, one of the most exciting and anticipated events of my entire life: I will finally get to meet the man I love in person. We have been dating long-distance for three years and are deeply in love with each other. We have spent thousands of hours of hours together on the phone and in video chat and I can’t wait for that chance to finally wrap our arms around each other. Our lifestyles are very different and we are still talking about ways to spend more time together, but now that I will be a traveler, I will be able to stop by and be with him regularly, which is more than we ever dared to hope for.
More adventures are planned after that, but I can only look so far down the road at once. Now that things are happening, I will be able to keep this blog updated more frequently and I will be adding pictures and hopefully the occasional video to share my adventures.
In the meantime, I have a count-down going over there in the right-hand column and I’ve added a widget to show generally where I am. I don’t want to add too many specifics, but I feel reasonably safe with showing what city or general region I’m in. That should help my friends know when they should contact me about visiting. I am so eager to meet you, my dear friends and to see you again, my loving family and long-missed friends.
Now it’s back to work. I still have so much to do this month!
